DISLIKES:
BIGGEST FEAR: Adam does not scare easily, however he does have a fear that one day he'll no longer be able to differentiate his own thoughts from the manic commands of The Voice. For now, he can almost ignore it, but he is almost certain that it will not remain that way forever. Potentially, this is what gives him such a respect for The Voice, and why he forces himself to think of it consciously like something separate from his own thoughts.
PERSONALITY:
FATHER: Arthur Camulus Hawk (48)
SIBLINGS: Alexander Leucetius Hawk (Brother, Twin to Adrianna, 16 – Disowned be family, Werewolf)
Adrianna Erecure Hawk (Sister, Twin to Alexander, 16)
HISTORY: The Hawk line is one of the last long, entirely pure-blooded wizarding families in Britain today, and it defends this line fiercely. The rumours of inbreeding did nothing to deter Arthur Hawk from choosing to carry on this proud tradition when he became patriarch of the family, following his own father's death. An only child, Arthur was determined that he would have as many offspring as he could, to ensure the name and line lived on regardless of the cost. Blood was everything to the family, and Arthur was the family. When his wife Elizabeth gave birth to his first son, Adam, he could not have been happier.
Adam was a fairly unremarkable babe, or that is his recollection anyway. His memories do not truly begin until well after his brother and sister, twins, were born. No, his first real memories are from around the time of his second birthday, a walking and inquisitive toddler.
He doesn't remember when he first heard the Voice.
In Adam's head, for all his life that he can recall, there has been a Voice, a deep Voice that commands him, that shouts, whispers or tells him what to do. These instructions are never pleasant – More often than not, they are commands to kill whoever Adam is looking at that that moment. Or to torture them, or to scream in their face. Adam asked his father once what it was, but of course, Arthur scoffed, assumed his son was talking about something silly, and waved it off.
Thankfully, while the Voice is often loud, Adam has never felt any obligation to obey it. It merely screams, but he can choose to ignore it, as best he can. As a child however, this led to him being distant from his siblings for a lot of the time, with the two twins becoming close friends and Adam remaining more of a loner in his youth. It was only when he began to approach 10 that he let himself open up a little, more aware that the Voice had no hold on him. This, however, opened him up more to the kind of games his father had been playing with the other two. Endlessly, Arthur Hawk pounded into his children the importance of purity: That the bloodstream must be kept flawless and perfect, and that any mutations or sullying would not be tolerated.
More so than the other two, Adam took this on board instinctively, not least because the Voice had been telling him similar things for years. If both his father and the Voice, two that had always been with him, believed it, then it must be so. Purity was not an option, but a necessity. He read up on his family past excessively, until he got his Hogwarts letter, and it was time for his schooling to begin in earnest. It took the Sorting Hat some time to put Adam into Slytherin, the main reason (he assumed) being that the Voice was driven crazy by the sheer amount of students in the Great Hall. So many of them to be killed. So many to be maimed. It was almost glorious, in the most terrifying sense of the word.
His first year was a struggle, mainly because the Voice seemed to take time to adapt to his new location. It soon resumed the normal rate of instruction and screaming, and more and more Adam found himself searching for a reason behind the orders. He looked for patterns in who triggered it, and in what intensity, but it seemed so random, so unpredictable, that he soon gave up this train of thought. He did continue to seek justification for it's words, however, taking what it said more seriously than before, and being less afraid of his worrying, disembodied companion than he had been. When his siblings arrived at Hogwarts in his second year (Alex to Hufflepuff, Adrianna to Ravenclaw), Adam made more of an effort to make friends among his peers, unwilling to look lonely in front of his brother and sister lest the mention to his father that he was not doing the family name proud.
This continued to be the status quo for some years, a relatively normal life aside from the obsession with purity and the Voice telling him to kill people a few times a day. That was until the summer before Adam's 6th year, when his family home was attacked, by a pack of werewolves who clearly saw the rich home as a good target for a robbery. Whispers were that Arthur had irritated the werewolf population with his puritanical views, but Adam chose to accept the reasoning his father gave him, rather than what many newspapers said. It was a bloody encounter, and only with liberal use of the Unforgivable Curses were Adam's mother and father able to fend off the attackers, but not before one of the wolves bit Alex. At first, Adam was terrified for his brother's life, but it did not take long for him to realise the true problem – Alex was impure. His blood had been sullied by the werewolf curse.
Staring at his brother bleeding, the Voice screamed, for the first time about Alex, “KILL HIM!”.
It was hard to fight this time. Adam wanted to obey, but Arthur had other ideas. Outraged, he took his youngest son to St Mungos, but he never visited, nor brought him home. As far as he was concerned, he had only one son. Elizabeth took a little longer to accept this, but eventually she did. Adam chose it, as the easier option over the Voices command, and within a few days he grew to hate Alexander for his failings, for his inability to keep the line pure. Adrianna stayed tight lipped on the subject, but Adam cared little. On returning to Hogwarts that year, he did not speak to Alexander. He is a Hawk, through and through, and while he may be insane, he will remain Pure.
