HISTORY: Jacqueline Victoria Wood was born on a steamy summer day sixteen years ago to renowned Quidditch players, Alicia Spinnet and Oliver Wood. As the third child – and second youngest – many would imagine Jac would’ve inherited some form of middle child syndrome. Instead, she was quite content being out of the “Wood family” limelight. Growing up, she was more content with reading books and playing mostly on her own. She preferred to watch rather than do – a think first, act later type of individual. Obviously, as the child of parents involved in the Second Wizarding War, she grew up hearing much about the war, even when her parents didn’t always want her to. Other children would tell stories, her siblings sometimes talked, she’d hear snippets. When she was seven years old, a neighborhood friend decided it would be fun to tell stories about how Death Eaters tortured people. She came home unable to sleep, often waking from nightmares and being overly paranoid. It was decided that keeping the war stories off the “okay conversations to have with Jac” list (yes, a very real list). Even so, Jac continued to have nightmares into her teens and developed a permanent paranoid personality. Also, because no one denied that what the other child had said were false, she became rather gullible – believing most anything.
When she was ten years old, Jac’s “magical abilities” came out… although, in the process, she also developed a rather terrible fear of heights. Coming from a family made up of so-called “Quidditch Royalty” (perhaps a term she made up), riding brooms with her parents and being involved in Quidditch practice games were common. As were going to her parent’s Quidditch practice meets and so-on. Unfortunately, when riding her mother’s broom, there was a rather unfortunate occurance – she slipped off. Even though she was riding in front of her mother, a rather harsh ghust of wind jerked the broom violently and she slipped off sideways. Her mother was going too fast to pull back and stop her fall and, so, Jac had to do something herself. She stopped just inches from the ground and landed softly. Even though she was able to stop her own fall, she has never been quite able to overcome her fear of falling and, thus, heights and flying.
She received her letter to Hogwarts at eleven and joined her older siblings at the school. She was quickly sorted into Ravenclaw – the hat barely brushing the top of her head before it hollered – and she joined her older sister. Eversince she was young, Jac had always looked up to her big sister – she’d always wanted to be like her. Smart, pretty, and with a career Jac was interested in. Jac was one of the more quiet Ravenclaws – more interested in watching and being a wallflower than being the life of the party. She liked studying and helping others study – she was always available to help others and, as she got older, started becoming quite talented at healing charms and spells. Although intelligent, she was hardly praised for such things because of her more secretive and reclusive personality – her parents rarely knew that she was doing well and only her Professors really were able to see how smart she was. Other kids knew, but it usually involved asking her for tutoring or to help them work on something. Still, she isn’t an idiot and doesn’t let others use her – she chooses what she thinks is worthy to help people with and doesn’t let others force her to do things she doesn’t want to. Because people always seem to assume she’s easily pushed around (and maybe because she has so many siblings and siblings can be pretty bully-esque), she’s pretty good at reading people and understanding where they’re going with things.
The last six years at Hogwarts have been pretty uneventful – she’s studied, made friends, and developed her interests. She’s still afraid of heights and sometimes has nightmares about being tortured. Still – after her sister’s graduation and subsequent hiring at St. Mungo’s – she’s become even more interested in becoming a Spell Damage Healer and working with victims of backfiring spells (although her Professors keep telling her to pursue a position in the Creatures department due to her love of animals).
