excerpt from Witch Weekly
The famed singer, Lorcan D'eath, will be returning to Britian after a ghastly long tour, I am more than eager to announce.
Many witches, including this reporter, became fans of the singer when his hit song "Necks to You" was released and rose quickly to the number one spot on WWN's popular show, The Witching Hour. I know I've spent many an hour sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting to hear his velvety voice croon.
Before his return, I would like to offer a bit of his history to introduce this wonderful artist to those that
Oh Hell! I'll just reprint the whole interview.
6, January 1984
"M-Mister D-D-D'eath! First, let me begin by saying how simply tickled I am y-you are willing to so th-this interview! It is ever so enchanting to meet you!"
Gladly. Happy to oblige, Miss..? (he reached for my hand!)
"OH!! My sincerest apologies, M-Mister D'eath. I'm Ruby! Ruby O'Shea."
"Ahh... An Irish lassie, eh? I, too, am Irish. Through and through. (his green eyes twinkled. merlin's beard! his eyes sparkled like fairylights!)
"I can't tell you how delighted our readers will be to hear your story."
"Why don't we have a seat, hmmm? I'm sure you have a barrage of questions for me, and I'd quite like to be comfortable whilst answering them. These interviews have been known to become intense... (he conjured us a handsome set of armchairs that appeared more throne-like, and offered mine first before seating himself. what! a! gentleman!)
"Yes. Yes! Thank you! Now. How about we start with the basics, if you please. You know. Where were you born? Who are your parents? What was life like growing up? That sort of thing."
"Mmm... Yes. The usual rundown... Well. Let me see... I suppose it best to start at the beginning. With my father then... Felix is his name. Felix D'eath. He's been around a long time. Eons, he'd say, but I remember him mentioning a century or so when I was a lad."
(his dark head shook as he spoke of his father, though with the promise of a smile shadowing his lips -so help me, helga hufflepuff, those lips- which implies there is a certain fondness for the elder vampire.)
"Any stories he may have, which is likely considering the amount of time he's lived, he doesn't share. I've only heard the tales of his experiences after he found my mother. Hmm... Found isn't accurate. Stalked... M'yes, that's more like it. You see, my father, long ago, was promised the hand of a dark haired beauty by my great-great-grandfather, and when he failed to pay up, my father chose to take matters into his own hands by taking my mother. Yes. Kidnapped she was. Poor Lillian... My mother still brings up the story from time to time. It's rather sad to hear, but I'm going to keep the sordid details to m'self."
(his frown pulls at my heartstrings, and I notice his Irish accent grows thicker under distress.)
"That's fine. Perfectly understandable. W-Would you mind beginning again? A-At your beginning th-this time?"
"Yes...yes. That's probably best. Those thoughts aren't... Well anyway... Onward…"
(bless me! his smile is glorious! such white teeth, they nearly sparkle like his eyes are doing again. hrmm... such a sudden change in moods.)
"The legend of Lorcan..."
(I must have died. laughter never sounded so...so...intoxicating. the sight is utterly hypnotising.)
"Lil' joke there. Forgive me. Well now... I was born to a witch and a vampire. Felix and Lillian D'eath are their names. It was winter, the third of February to be exact, I assume that is why I favour the Winter season. Well... That and because I'm not one to sunbathe..."
"I suppose not."
"Indeed... Right. The year was 1964, I arrive, and so it began... I suppose my parents cared for me, my father not nearly as affectionate as my mother, but such actions are hard for vampires. It was clear from the start my diet would be very different from other children. Mind, I'm not a threat. No need to worry your pretty head, Miss O'Shea."
"Not all, Mister D'eath."
"Good. I'm glad. Anyway. I don't reckon my upbringing was that different. Sure, my appetite, and aversion to the sun changed the rules of the game some, but I could do other things too. Why, when I was four, my magical abilities announced themselves. My mother still mentions that, too... However, a child cannot be blamed for landing himself up a tree to hide from a seemingly murderous cousin. But now, now that I'm looking back on it, the vampire half might have been the reason I popped up in the branches of a Birch. Not that it much matters. I mean...I do have magical abilities, not that I saw much of Hogwarts." (his expression grows dark here. oh my! merlin me! was that a flash of fang?!)
"Ahem... Erm... M-Mister D-D'eath? You... Ahem... Excuse me. You did...didn't attend Hogwarts?"
"No."
(goodness! his jaw snapped shut. I clearly heard his teeth click together, and yep. I think he's angry. furious even.)
"I wasnae permitted. There were some that feared wha' would happen to their wee bairn if I was given such freedom. Me mum had to plead with the Headmaster to send someone to tutor me."
(there's that accent again. he really does try hard to hide it.)
"I wasnae all tha' fussed. Music is wha' I had a passion for. I didnae much practise the lessons me tutor gave me. Mind if I take a mo'? Let me gather meself?"
"S-Sure thing, Mister D-D'eath. Take...take all the time you need."
(for about five minutes he sits. his eyes are closed, and I get the feeling he's having some sort of struggle. it feels like forever when he finally returns, and the difference is like night and day. if I hadn't been sitting there, I never would have guessed he was visibly upset moments ago.)
"Please forgive me. There are times when my emotions get the best of me. I'll be on my best behaviour now."
"Not a problem, Mister-"
"Call me Lorcan. Mister D'eath is my father."
"O-Okay, Mist- Lorcan."
"That's better. So... Where were we, Ruby?"
"Er... Umm... Hog-Hogwarts I b-believe."
"Ahh... Yes. Alright. I didn't attend, had a tutor, blah, blah, blah... Music. My love of singing. That was always my focus. I can't remember a time when I didn't do something that involved music. My father and I drifted further as my passion grew. You won't hear me complain about that though. Anyway... By the time I would've graduated, I was already on the air, and shortly after, well...here we are. And, I really do need to wrap this up. I have a few engagements yet to attend."
Since publishing that interview, Lorcan D'eath's fame grew to mind-boggling proportions. He has also met and married one Miss Sophia Barters, also a half vampire. However, it has been rumoured Mr. D'eath fancies his extracurricular activities since the birth of the couples youngest child.
