HISTORY:
From day one, Barnabas has been exposed to both farm life and magical creatures, the son of a Hippalectryon Farmer named Orin Blenkinsop. By a very young age, he had been well trained in how to work on a farm and with such creatures, so much that from his very first trip to London to prepare for Hogwarts, he developed a disdain for city life, and only went to London when necessary, which was basically to prep for and get to and from Hogwarts.
At Hogwarts, he was sorted into Gryffindor because of his strong will and courage around such creatures as Hippogriffs. While he did well enough in his studies, it was there that he primarily took an interest in dragons from hanging around Hagrid a great deal. With the half-giant's encouragement, he decided quickly that he wanted a career in training them. After graduating Hogwarts, he went on to spend a number of years as a Dragon Trainer, becoming quite skilled at the job and gaining a knowledge of the creatures that many would envy.
Also during this time, he married his school sweetheart Catherine. The couple went on to have three children of their own- Matthew, Jacob, and Abigail. Furthermore, they went on to adopt two. One was Vera, a squib, who Barnabas and Catherine's heart went out too because few magical families would take in a squib. The second was Wyatt, the son of his late brother (see next paragraph). While Barnabas opened his home to anyone who needed a place to stay, actually bringing others into the family was a big event and of course caused changes in the family's life. But being the strong and stubborn man Barnabas was, he was well prepared to handle such changes.
With the encouragement of his wife shortly after they were married (Catherine never approved of him doing such a dangerous thing), Barnabas reluctantly retired from dragon training, eventually realizing that his wife and future family came first. The two settled down on a farm, raising far safer creatures in Hippogriffs. He was truly awakened to his wife's worry when later on, his older brother was killed while working with the creatures. A man who believed in family, this was a hard blow to Barnabas. However, despite the tragedy and against his wife's wishes, Barnabas later went on to tutor certain young folk in dragon training, among them his favorite pupil Valeriya Rousseau, who he began teaching from a very young age.
Barnabas almost suffered another tragedy when one of the barns on the farm burned down while he was away, nearly taking Vera with it, along with Jacob who ran in to rescue her. With his biggest fear being the loss of his family, Barnabas was greatly upset. He also showed anger and distrust toward Jacob, who he left in charge of the place while he was away. However, later on when he had taken ill was unable to run the farm, his trust in his son was rekindled as Jacob returned home to take care of things.
