don't let the world hold you back fight the bit that holds you back, fight the hands that hold you down and let your mind take you away ✥ ✥ ✥ ✥ ✥ ✥ ✥ ✥ ✥ ✥ ✥
his son was home. waking up and remembering it brought a smile to his face. it always did. he missed having icarus around all the time, sure there were parents out there that revelled in having breaks from their children, and he had to admit that there were days that he felt like that too. such as the countless summer holidays he'd had a bored child on his hands and was at a loss on how to entertain such a mind like his sons while managing to keep his sanity. oh those had been the days. but now he was glad to have his son back under his roof, if only for a few days, he was here and he was safe. after everything that had happened, what with his best friend and all sufficient to say that cleitus was worried. not just about the effect this would have on icarus, but charlie too. merlin knew that both of those boys had had enough happen to them in their short lives than most people have in whole life times. rubbing his fingers into his eyes he kicked back the blankets and prepared to face the day. starting with breakfast he thought to himself as he walked out of his bedroom door, feeling more than just a little hungry after the night of sleep. walking down the stairs he touched his fingers to a photo of his wife, as he did each time he passed it and a smile spread across his face lightly and stayed there while he proceeded to cook what he'd call a heck of a breakfast. bacon, eggs, pancakes and more, it was all there. something of a tradition he was trying to start for when icarus was at home, mostly because he loved this sort of wake up and needed an excuse to eat like this.
it didn't take long for everything to be cooked, and while it didn't look like it belonged at the cordon bleu, it looked good enough if he did say so himself, but he was pretty biased, and hungry so anything would probably look amazing to him right now. setting it on the table in the middle of the kitchen he ran his hand over the back of his neck lightly and yawned, tilting his head to the side and feeling it crack and relaxing his shoulders. he was getting old, he thought as he headed up the stairs to see if his son was awake and if he wasn't, to have the delightful chance to wake him up. moving to the door he grinned a little, pushing on the wood so it opened a crack and he peered in, watching his son sprawled out and snoring for a few moments before opening the door fully and moving into the room quietly. looking down at him for a moment he just stood there, watching like he had done so many nights when icarus had been younger. life was supposed to be fun at this age, supposed to be care free and wonderful and the time to enjoy before having to grow up and become mature, not that everyone had to grow up the same, they all needed to grow up. shaking his head a little he grinned slightly and folded his arms, his eyes on his son as he spoke. "you know the point of you coming home this weekend wasn't to sleep it away, was it?" he said loudly enough to hopefully wake his son.

I was the son you always had Tugging at your coat when you were sad
Icarus had been more then happy to bring Charlie home for the holiday, since the accident it was hard for the teenager to let the other boy out of his sight - though of course being a vampire now Charlie hardly needed Icarus to watch his every move, but Icarus worried about his brother. Still, Icarus had found himself feeling a pang of guilt about how the holiday had gone. There was still so much Icarus was withholding from his father about just what had happened to Charlie, how Drew had been the master mind behind it how his sort of girlfriend was the vampire in question that had actually bit Charlie, how he was struggling with the nightmares again. Lie on top of lie was what it was starting to feel like to Icarus. Maybe it was guilt that drove him to come home for a weekend, or maybe it was just the needed to escape the hall of Hogwarts and find some piece of mind if only for a few days.
Being eighteen it was hardly a task to get out of the school for a weekend, when classes had finished he packed up little Tux, told Charlie and Xarrah that he would be back on Sunday. Of course, he also was sure to find and tell Xochilt even though he still wasn't sure where they stood with one another. It was a quick trip to the village and from there a quick pop home. Dropping Tux off in his room and leaving a quick note of how he would be home for dinner Icarus made the trip to the hospital to give more blood so he could get more for Charlie. He still had yet to tell Charlie that he was bleeding to feed other vampires to help feed the hunger that was deep inside his friend. No doubt Xochilt would tell him off if, or when, she found out. So many secrets. But Icarus knew it was something he needed to do, something that helped him to feel less helpless.
One blood draw session and a blood replenishing potion later Icarus found himself back home for a late dinner with his dad and some small talk before he dragged himself to his room and collapsed in his bed. It was easy for the teenager to forget just how tired he really was when he was at school. Kept up with worry and troubling thoughts only recently had he been able to find some peace of mind. Instead of his usual nightmares he dreamed of her. He wondered at times if it was her way of letting him know she was still watching him, his own personal guardian angel, or if it was just the subtle reminder of how much he still missed her.
Sprawled out on his bed Icarus was kissed by the morning light, but it wasn't enough to wake him. He didn't even hear as his father crept softly into his room. It was only when his father spoke up that Icarus woke with a jump, falling right to the floor. He quickly was on his knees with his arms holding on to the side of his bed looking around for a minute before he remembered that he was in his own home and not in Ravenclaw tower. "Da!" Though Icarus could feel his heart pounding from being startled the brown eyed boy looked up to his father with a smile. The smells of breakfast were finally registering to Icarus, "That bacon?" Icarus rose up to his feet and tugged at the tee-shirt he was wearing "I - well - wasn't sleeping it all away, just replenishing was all -" Icarus was not awake enough to come up with a better excuse for his heavy sleeping, instead he could only give a goofy grin before moving over to embrace his father.
Drawing back Icarus ran a hand over the back of his neck sheepishly, "Maybe I should eat breakfast before I try and make an excuse?" Maybe he was using this weekend to get some errands done but there was no denying his main reasons was because of how desperately he needed this time with his dad.

don't let the world hold you back fight the bit that holds you back, fight the hands that hold you down and let your mind take you away - - - - - - - - - - -
as cleitus took a moment to watch his son sleep he thought back to the night before. to how his son had looked too tired for someone his age and had started to wonder what was going on. he wanted his son to have an easy time while he was at school. he'd been through enough in his life and he deserved at least one year where things didn't go pear shaped on him. but he couldn't push his son to talk to him, it would just be hypocritical of him after he'd spent so long not talking about anything that had been going on in his own head. he couldn't help but chuckle when his son woke with a start and he just stood there, his arms folded over his chest, his head tilted to the side as he looked down at his son on the floor. "well that was graceful" he said lightly, his voice soft as he was reminded of a younger icarus in that very moment. he could almost picture him as a child again, being caught doing something he shouldn't or just in anything he did really and the thought warmed him. his only son was growing up so he needed those memories of him being small. if he lost those he'd no idea what he'd do. "no it's chicken" he said with a slight roll of his eye and a grin down at his son as he joked. he'd missed this. when icarus was a way at school most of the time he spent in the house was on his own and it was nice to have someone to talk to in the mornings other than himself, which was something he was good at but this was different. "it's ten o'clock. that's what i call sleeping it away" he said as he dropped his arms to wrap them around his son tightly, pulling the younger teen's body close and holding on for a moment. he ran his hand down the back of icarus' head lightly and smiled. he'd left his son alone last night, he'd seemed to tired that cleitus had thought it best to let him eat then fall into bed. they had time this weekend. clapping his son's back lightly he let him go and stepped back and shook his head a little.
"or just accept that i'm right, might be easier in the long run since you can't seem to form a sentence this morning." he said with a grin as he moved out of this son's room. running his hand over his chin he yawned a little as he moved down the wooden steps into the kitchen. the smell from the food wafting off the plates was enough to make him feel like he was starving he thought as he dropped into a chair at the table and grabbed his cup of coffee. downing a few mouthfuls he glanced at icarus and leaned back in his chair before starting to pile some food onto his plate. "so tell me about school, classes going okay?" he asked as he reached to grab the eggs, he figured that small talk over some food was the way to go about trying to find out about what icarus was going through, it was no good bombarding him with questions. slow and subtle was the way.
