Brian had minded his own business since he'd been married off to Merida Tchaikovsky. He hadn't said much to his father but he hadn't been mad. Being together had been well enough for him. He'd been happy with her but trying to figure out being a husband wasn't exactly the easiest thing to do. For Merlin's sake he was twenty-five and while people married oft at a younger age Brian had honestly never thought he'd settle down. It looked like his parents had made that decision for him. He went through with it and called it good and he wasn't mad about it anymore but he still slightly resented it. Now that Christmas had come and gone he decided maybe it was time to drop in on his parents.
Honestly though he was in the end hoping that it was just his mother that was home. At least she didn't have nearly anything to do with his father's doing. Their mother had always been good to them in the end but Brian knew how much more Nicholas got on with their mother than he did. Brian had been Marcus' shadow most of his childhood, learning everything he could to make his father proud and by running the same business that his father had trained him to do as a child. The resentment between Nicholas and Brian was still very strong. The competing for everything they shared. The two were definitely brothers. They got on well enough most of the time and the other times they quite frankly pissed each other off but in the end they loved each other and could always count on the other for things that were needed.
Brian dressed in a black t-shirt and a nice pair of dark blue jeans before he decided to leave for his parents home. He was currently living in the heart of London with his new wife and this was where he liked it. A quick wave of his wand and he apparated to the front of his parents tucked back home. A quick walk up the front walkway and steps and he was looking at the front door. It made him pause. He was used to living mostly at home before now and now he wasn't sure what he should do. Normally he would just walk in. Not give a knock or anything, but now that felt weird so he gave a heavy knock onto the door and awaited for someone to answer.
He realized it hadn't been since shortly after the wedding that he hadn't been home. It'd been many months, even before school had started back up and Nicholas was back to teaching. In fact he'd only seen his father on occasion and owled him for most of the business stuff. He did spend a bit more time at the Ministry than he used to which he knew his father wasn't happy about but honestly he'd come to love that job as much as anyone would even if it was originally meant as a cover for what his father's job was.

today was one of those rare days where laurie felt like doing nothing. it didn't happen often but when it did she took advantage of it, curled up on a couch in front of a fire in the library with a glass of good wine and an even better book. it felt strange to her that she could take a day or two to relax here and there if she wanted to. before she'd gotten married she'd worked hard to climb the ladder of position at work, then she'd gotten married and had children and her time had been mostly been taken up with running around after them, trying to support her husbands working and try and hide her growing disdain for the side their family was on. she had her children to thank for that. till she'd first held her oldest in her arms. sure there were still some things that she agreed on, like magical blood being kept together, but she wasn't as willing to accept that fact that people were dying. children even. she'd seen them come through the hospital and every time she did the thought that what if her children were next, ran through her mind. she hated worrying so much but it was something that had never stopped, and since her children had grown up and moved out of her sight she seemed to worry even more. she ran her hand through her hair lightly as she curled her legs underneath her and relaxed back into the overstuffed armchair, relishing in the warmth that was coming off the fire that was crackling in front of her. her book was laying on the arm of the chair but she didn't pick it up, not yet. folding her arms over her chest she watched as the flames danced and spat against the stone of the fireplace.
she didn't know how long she had been sitting there staring at the flames before a knock pulled her out of her trance and her head snapped back toward the door, a slight frown on her face. if her husband had told people to come around to the house today for any sort of meeting she was going to kill him. wine glass in hand she stood up and walked out of the room, not caring that her hair was loose and her clothes were for comfort instead of immaculate, normally she hated looking anything but perfect, but on her days of relaxing, she tried not to let herself get too worked up about it, after all that sort of obsession could lead a person dangerous places and over the years, she'd seen people fall into those. and she didn't want to be one of them. putting the glass down on the little table by the door she pulled her jacket around her more in protection against the cold air she was sure would rush in from the open door and she pulled the handle. it might seem odd, someone like her opening a door when they had elves that could do it for her, but there was something about the thrill of being able to slam it closed on people she didn't want in her house that was too appealing to her so she left the elves use to her husband. not expecting who was on the other side of the door her eyes widened a little and smile pulled at the side of her mouth. her oldest son. she'd tried to give him and his new wife space after their wedding, something she had gone along with but could have strangled her husband for. while she knew she'd never have been able to talk marcus out of marrying their son off, she'd have liked him to have been a little older, given him the chance to find his own bride, but it was done and there was nothing she could do about it. "brian" she said simply, opening the door wider to let her son in, the smile growing a little as she realised how long it had been since she'd seen him. "darling, to what do i owe this pleasure?" she asked, wondering if there was a reason he was here. or if he'd just stopped by.
