The Bromance (Claudius)

Philo came to the village of Hogsmeade for two reasons and two reasons only. One was to browse about the Tomes and Scrolls book shop, and the other, and more important reason, was to visit his very long time best friend Claudius. The two always seemed to be on different paths, yet their friendship was legendary. Philo was a Ravenclaw and Claudius was a Hufflepuff, yet they hit off a friendship in their first years so many decades ago that stood the test of time. Philo went on to become a Historian, while Claudius taught Alchemy, yet their differing career paths hardly kept them from still hanging on and even occasionally vacationing together when they could.

Today, it was just getting together for a drink or two or five at the Hog's Head Inn. Nothing special, but Philo knew the two aging pals would have a splendid time and share what had been happening in their crazy lives with one another.

Philo stepped in and the bartender greeted him.

"Hello, Mr. Greengrass," said the man. "The usual? And I assume Professor Snug will be joining you."

"Yes, my boy," smiled Philo as he sat at the bar. "The usual ale and he will indeed."

Things had been somewhat quiet at Hogwarts despite the Headmaster being kidnapped a short while earlier. All of the staff had had to be on alert and when she returned things finally began to settle down. However, there was still issues and fears going through everyone's mind. Even the prankster Claud was a bit on edge still.

So when a chance to spend time with his best friend Philo he was even more excited than usual. He put on a playful face for his students as he always did, trying to help them relax and get their minds off of things. But he needed some fun to get his mind off of it. Philo who had always been great company was just the person to help Claud relax and have some fun, his best friend.

He walked in and smiled patting his old friend's back. "Philo, looking as dashing as ever." he said with a chuckle. "How are you my dearest oldest friend." he said playfully.

Philo embraced his old friend Claudius when the man walked in, then looked him over.

"Supposed I can say the same for you," he said when Claudius called him dashing. "We're quite handsome for two old relics." He gave out a light chuckled at this. "And I am well pending I get over the latest headache from the family. My niece Daphne is going mad over her son allowing his girlfriend to move into his flat when she graduates. Let the young be young I say. Jill moved in with me before we were married. Of course my parents ranted about that too, mostly because Jill is a Muggle."

He was beaming as he said this. Philo loved to complain about his family. It was more amusing than frustrating.

"So how goes it at the school, old boy?" he asked. "Any of those Sixth and Seventh Years giving you grief these days?"

Claud chuckled at Philo's comment about them being quite handsome for two old relics. "Amazing relics at that." he said in agreement. He shook his head at the family drama that Philo was relaying to him. "I agree with you Philo. You're only young once, and you might as well enjoy it while it lasts." he said before taking a drink from his mug.

When Philo asked about school Claud shrugged. "If anything I give them grief old friend." he said. "I'm up to my same old tricks of course, and the kids never learn. They think they can prank someone who has as much experience as I, but I always catch them, prank them myself." he said with a chuckle.

His smile faded though at the next thought. "Sadly though, it seems trouble is brewing in the wizarding world. The headmistress was kidnapped a few months ago. She is back now, but it is troublesome to think it could happen again." he admitted.

Philo nodded as he placed his pipe in his mouth and lit it.

"Cole's a good boy, and he deserves all the happiness in the world, and his mother needs to bloody well realize that and stop attaching herself to all of her father's and grandparents' beliefs," he said. Philo took another sip of his ale.

Philo chuckled about Claudius giving the students grief.

"I truly envy them though," he said. "I have nothing against being old, but I miss the days when you are I were sitting where they're sitting now, being quite the formidable duo against our own Professors. It was a wonder we escaped expulsion as much as we did."

Philo knew about the trouble. He was hearing it from Draco's end in London, and none of the news was pleasant.

"Yes, that rubbish all over again," he said. "There's always some psychotic dark magic user trying to top the last. And this Dark Lady is beginning to get to my nephew-in-law. He's becoming paranoid, questioning everyone in the Ministry. An ill-thought decision if you ask me."

Snug smiled when Philo said that his nephew Cole was a good boy and that he deserved all the happiness in the world. "That he does. Drink to Cole and his future bride!" he said holding up his glass to Philo. "May they have a succesful wedding and a happy marriage without interference!" he said before taking a drink.

Snug chuckled, "You're as old as you feel old man." he joked. "But I think we could give some of these kids a run for their money still if we tried. Old or not, they still have nothing on the troublemakers Philo and Snug." he joked.

Snug sighed when Philo mentioned the turmoil going on in the wizarding world with more dark wizards appearing after so many years since Voldemort had reappeared. "I can't say I blame him for being paranoid. The last time a dark wizard made himself known no one could be trusted either. So many in the pockets of the dark wizard and others under his control." he said shaking his head.
