DELANEY GRAYSON TWENTY-THREE halfblood hufflepuff alumnus department of magical education intern/dancer 11 in., unicorn hair, applewood BIRTHDAY: 23 - March 28 PATRONUS: Cottontail Rabbit ABILITIES: Nonverbal Magic and Wandless Magic "Daddy, daddy! Come look! Hurry, hurry! It's so pretty!" Her beady blue eyes stared down in amazement at the butterfly that perched itself upon a flower. The young girl of only five years old knelt down to watch as the multi-colored wings flapped to keep its balance upon the flower. Her smile stayed intact and only brightened as her father came to kneel beside her. "Do you see it daddy? Do you see how pretty it is?" Her small voice carried as she reached forward to touch it, but her father gently took her hand. "It's beautiful Delaney, but you must not touch it's wings, for it would weaken it and the butterfly would be hurt." With a nod of her head, she turned back to the butterfly and continued to watch it with her father. But it didn't take long for her attention to be pulled from the insect, her now plotting mind focused on her father. "Tag! You're it!" She yelled before jumping up and running from the man she had just tapped on the shoulder to start a game of tag. It was all Delaney Grayson knew for as long as she remembered; living with only a father. After the baby girl had arrived into the world, her mother left. Partly because she had postpartum depression, the other part being she couldn't handle the fact her husband and child were part of a magical world she didn't understand. The only reason she had married the man in the first place was because she was pregnant, but when the child was born, she realized it was not the life she wanted. Delaney was lucky though, because her father though devastated by the decision and divorce, never faltered and never lost sight of what was important; his daughter. The young girl with the blonde locks grew up as a halfblood; her mother being muggle, while her father was a pureblood wizard. Even without her mother being there, Delaney had the best of both worlds. Her father was not going to deprive her of the other half of herself just because her mother left. He taught her all there was to know about both the muggle world and the wizarding world. When she was of age, she attended a muggle school instead of being home schooled. This allowed two things to happen. One, she was able to continue her knowledge in all things muggle and two, it allowed her father to work in order to support the two of them. He made enough to keep them going and keep food on the table, but they were far from wealthy. However, it was all they needed. "Hush now child and try to get some sleep." Her grandmother cooed as she stroked the now eight year old girl's hair. "Grammy, where is daddy? I want my daddy." She cried, her blue eyes looking up at the brown ones that watched over her. "Your father has some things to work through, but I promise you, he will return. He would never leave you for good." She told you, her voice so reassuring with each word she spoke. You believed her, because she was your Grandmother; because she was the mother of your father. If anyone would know him, it would be her. Calming down slightly, Delaney allowed the older woman to wipe away her tears, before she started to hum a song, putting the young girl to sleep in the process. The year she was eight, Delaney's father was attacked by a werewolf and changed due to the attack. Because she had no other parent, Delaney was sent to stay with her Grandparents until her father could return. However, the young blonde didn't know this until her father returned a year later. Delaney had just gotten to a point where she was alright again and then he showed up. She was excited and had been hoping every single day for that year that he would come back, but it was hard to come to terms that he was there again after a year without him. Sitting down with her, Delaney's father explained everything that had happened and why he had to leave for so long. He told her about the attack and what he now was. He told her about having to learn to control it and finding potions to keep him under control. And most importantly, he told her that he did it all to make sure he could return to her because he knew she was all he really had for so long and he would never leave her. At first, it was hard to grasp exactly what all that meant. She was only nine after all, so even though he explained the situation, she still needed time to process and actually learn about it. "Dad, it's here! My letter is here!" Her blonde curls flew rapidly behind her as she ran inside to greet her father with a letter in hand. "Well open it silly! Don't just bounce around." He told her, placing a hand on her head. Her fingers quickly pulled up the flap of the envelope and slid the letter from inside. Eyes wider than they've ever been before, they scanned the writing on the parchment. "Oh, dad it's so exciting! Hogwarts... I can't wait!" She shrieked excitedly, once again bouncing up and down, her father only chuckling as he watched his daughter more excited than anything she had been excited for in the past. At eleven years old, Delaney received her Hogwarts letter like most children with magical abilities. She had been so excited since all she heard about growing up, aside from the muggle things, was Hogwarts. It fascinated her and gave her something to look forward to in the future. But her dreams of going to the castle were nothing compared to actually being there. It was a beautiful sight to behold as her boat docked onto the grass. She couldn't help but stare up at the large castle before her as she walked with the other students to the entrance. Delaney knew the time was coming when she would find out what house she would be placed in. It was another thing her father told her about, and she was curious to find out just which house it would choose for her. When the hat cried out Hufflepuff, a wide grin spread across the young blondes face before she hopped off the stool and ran to her new housemates. Many students greeted her with open arms, making it hard for her to feel alone in the thousands that surrounded her. Delaney found herself desiring to learn more than what the professors taught. Though not in Ravenclaw, she had a lot of qualities they did, such as her desire to learn and take in information. Or their determination to get high grades and do well in class as well as study. But it was easy to see why she wasn't place in there, but instead in Hufflepuff. The young girl was compassionate and empathetic. She was one of the most loyal people to ever have as a friend, or an ally and she would go to the ends of the earth to make sure people were okay. The young blonde was a calm soul with a very big heart, but if you crossed her, she had no problem with defending herself or other people. Even if it meant taking out her wand, she would, but she used it wisely and chose her battles intelligently as well. She had made many friends, even those of different houses. Delaney was not prejudice when it came to blood or house. Of course, she really couldn't be that put off about blood, seeing as she was half muggle herself. What a contradiction that would be. But she got along with most, and of course had the ones that she didn't care for as well as some that didn't care for her. She tried not to let it bother her. While sometimes it was hard to ignore, she did let it go after awhile. Holding grudges wasn't worth her time. Nor was worrying about those that never gave a thought about her. "Hello? Father? Dad, where are you?" Something felt wrong as the now sixteen year old pushed her way into the house, bills scattered across the floor to the entrance. It was one thing that he didn't pick her up from the train station, which did hurt her feelings, but now there was evidence of him not possibly being there at all. She had just gotten home for summer holiday and she was excited to see her father. She had missed him dearly, but he was no where to be found. Setting her suitcase aside, she picked up a couple bills and opened them, a couple of the papers dating back a couple months before. Tears springing up in her eyes, she was horrified at what this meant. "Daddy?" The word escaped from her lips in a whisper, her heart starting to beat rapidly in panic. Throwing the bills down to where she found them, she ran around the house, throwing open doors and looking around in the back yard. The tears flowed rapidly down her cheeks as she searched for him, but there weren't many places to look in their small home. Once she was back inside, the girl slid to the floor, her back against the wall. What was she going to do? Where was he and what happened? When Delaney had returned home the summer before her sixth year, her father was no where to be found and he would never be found again. Through the distraught of not knowing, she didn't also didn't know what to do. She never thought she would have to deal with something such as this. What child would? With her Grandparents now gone, she had no where to go. She refused to try to find her mother and when she left their lives, so did her family. There were no options for her and she couldn't stay in a house that wasn't being paid for. She hardly had any money of her own. Not knowing what else to do, she called the authorities. In the end, she ended up in an orphanage. They said it was only until they could find her father, but they never did. It seemed the orphanage would be her home until she graduated Hogwarts. "Did you hear about the wizard that disappeared? Yeah, that's his daughter. That must really suck." She could hear the talking. They acted as if she were deaf or something, but no. Delaney could hear every single word that people spoke about her when she was around. She hated hearing the whispers. Especially the ones from the ignorant and arrogant purebloods that spoke despicable things of her father. Each horrible thing would make her break down or grow so angry she threw a hex or even a punch at them. They deserved it, she would think. Anyone who spoke poorly of her father deserved any bit of pain they received. No one understood. They didn't know the pain she felt every waking moment. They didn't know what it felt like to wake up thinking he was still alive and then realize he wasn't, reliving the pain over and over again. The worst part of it all was she had no idea what happened to him. No one could ever find him or at least something to tell them what became of him. Nothing. When Delaney had arrived back at Hogwarts, it was not rare for her to hear the some of the students talking about what had happened to her. After all, it had been reported, so naturally everyone knew about it. Her friends were sympathetic, while those that couldn't care less were rude and apathetic to her situation. She didn't want pity, but she didn't want to feel the way she did either. Her friends' comfort helped with that. Well, the friends she kept. After her father's disappearance, the sixth year Hufflepuff closed herself off from most people. She kept to herself and continued to do what she needed to do to keep top grades. But she buried herself deeper into her study habits and other things that could keep her mind from such horrible thoughts. This was the period of time that Delaney found a passion and hobby that kept her busy, but also helped her get things off of her chest. Delaney found a love for dance. She knew there were other students that enjoyed it and there was a dance studio right in Diagon. It didn't take her long to find someone to help her learn and teach her the art. Like most things, she picked it up quickly, her teacher saying she was a natural. If only she had learned it sooner and it didn't come about because of the loss of her father. Still, it was something and one thing, that kept her sane and doing something other than studying or moping about. It took some time, but it got her back on her feet and close to her old self. "Yes, yes! That would be wonderful! Thank you so much!" Her voice rang out when she had been offered an internship at the ministry in the Department of Magical Education. She had been waiting for that day ever since graduation. The thing was, she couldn't start as an intern until the age of twenty-two. So, when she was accepted, she was ecstatic. "The ministry will be lucky to have someone of your standing, miss." She was told, making her ever so happy. Of course they were speaking of her marks at Hogwarts. She had been Head Girl after all and her grades were very high. This was the best thing to have happened since her father's disappearance. "Thank you so much. I'll be there as soon as you want me to start." When her father had disappeared, Delaney's safe haven became Hogwarts. Despite the students that liked to give their unwanted opinions, it was the one place she felt as though she belonged and could keep her safe. The professors helped her to continue on as well as her friends. It was what really opened her eyes to just how important that place was. Not only to her, but other students as well. It was what helped her make her decision on her career. Delaney was going to work in the ministry and she was going to work in the Department of Magical Education. Any way she could keep it safe and welcoming to the students, she would do it. And any way she could make things better, she would. Upon graduation, Delaney was not old enough to start at the ministry yet. At least not in that field. So, she decided to continue her dance as a career. It wasn't much, but it was enough to get by and get a small apartment to hold her. For four years she danced and traveled a bit with certain groups in the muggle world. In a sense, it was good for her. It gave her more experience in the muggle world as well as got her away from everything. It was the perfect decision for her until she was old enough to start at the ministry. When she had turned twenty-two, she was accepted into the internship at the ministry. It was just what she wanted and nothing else made her happier. At first, it was not the easiest to get accustomed to the ministry world, or even the person she was working under. She had heard a lot about Daphne Nott, and everything seemed to have been right. Daphne was certainly a tough woman, but Laney admired her and respected the woman. She warmed up to her and she'd like to think that Daphne had warmed up to her as well. Delaney is now twenty-three years old and still an intern. Her life has seemed to fall back into place and things have been better for her. She owns an apartment now, a bit larger than what she initially owned, but nothing too large. After all, she's only one person. But it suits her and she is happy where she is. She still continues to dance as a second career, but it's only when she has the time to do odd jobs here and there. But she continues it as a hobby as well. Things are looking up and hopefully, they'll stay that way. hey guys, my name is KAIT! and I am rocking it at TWENTY-ONE years old, role-playing for roughly A LOT OF years - so i'm pretty chill with anything. i'm in the EASTERN time zone, and hail from THE UNITED STATES so how about that! currently my character looks just like ROSE MCIVER or so i am told!
