PERSONALITY: Ryker Colt is often referred to as a dick. Why? Because he's a dick. At least, that's what he'd have you believe. He comes across arrogant, selfish to the point that he often comes across as a heartless asshole, and crude. Why? Because nobody wants to be friends with an asshole and in his experience, pretending to be a jerk is the perfect way to stop people trying to pry their way into your life. All anyone does is leave you anyway, so what's the point of getting close with anyone? Truth is, Ryker doesn't want to give a shit about anybody but Ryker. He's a loner and that's just the way he likes it. Being on his own, not having to worry about anybody but himself means that he can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants and he doesn't have to worry about the consequences or who he hurts along the way.
Of course being a dick doesn't always help, especially not when he's bored and wants to be entertained. So if he needs to pretend to be something he's not to get what he wants, then he will. Ryker is a chameleon, a manipulator and a grade A bullshitter. If he needs to be a charmer then he'll be a charmer. If he needs to be the sweet guy then that's the mask he wears. He'll be your best friend, your lover, your confidant, he'll be like a brother to you but it doesn't mean anything to him as long as he's getting what he wants from you.
But he isn't an entirely awful person. Just because he'd rather keep people at a distance with some assholish behavior doesn't mean he's a bad guy. In fact, he's a pretty decent guy, once you get by his selfish tendencies - (which aren't so much of an act) and the fact that he can be an arrogant and cocky bastard. He can be kind, or at least his version of it. Ryker often thinks of himself as emotionally damaged. He once had the capacity to care for other people, it's just that he's had himself on lock down for so long that he literally doesn't know how to open up and show his more vulnerable side. Not that he'd want to these days anyway.

HISTORY: Ryker James Colt was the result of an affair. Sarah Colt had been married off through a family arrangement to her first child's father Anthony, but had been wildly in love with Ryker's biological father, Dante. Dante and Sarah had met at Hogwarts and had become fast friends but because Dante didn't come from a wealthy enough pureblood family, her parents refused to have their daughter marry into his family - and so she was made to marry Anthony. But her marriage to Anthony didn't stop her from having an affair with Dante, the man she truly loved. Anthony was always away on business trips for the Ministry and it was during that time that Sarah would have secret rendezvous with Dante.
It wasn't long before Sarah fell pregnant and with this news she and Dante began to brew up a plan to run away to another country, where they could be together at last. Sarah began to steal money from her husbands bank, just small amounts here and there over the next few months so that he wouldn't notice. But what she didn't know was that Anthony had noticed and had followed her out to her meeting place with Dante numerous times to see what it was she was getting up to. Furious that his wife was sleeping with another man, Anthony arranged for Dante to be sent to Azkaban after pinning a double murder on him, with the help of some friends. Heartbroken and terrified, because she then knew that Anthony had found out about her affair, Sarah made it known to as many people as she could that she was carrying Anthony's son. She knew that he would never do anything to hurt or get rid of the baby once he was born if everybody already knew about it. And since his wife was too far along with child to abort, Anthony could see no other option but to keep the child.
Growing up, Ryker had everything he could ask for - except for the love and adoration of his father. Whilst his mother was caring and devoted, his father couldn't of cared less for him and seemed to favor his older sister, who he often showered with gifts. And so, growing up, he was constantly striving for his fathers attention. He would build things and draw things and pester his father to look at his hard work but his efforts would often go unseen. When being good didn't work, he started to misbehave and would often lash out in an attempt to get some attention, but even then his father didn't seem to care. He wouldn't even bother himself to punish his son.
Before long his mother slowly began to turn to alcohol and then even she began to pull away and slowly, their relationship shifted. When he was eight years old, Sarah struck Ryker in her drunken stupor and exclaimed that it was his fault that his father treated her so badly. And then she would break down and cry and Ryker would hug and soothe her until she stopped crying and then help her to bed, where she'd sleep until noon the next day. This continued and worsened until he turned eleven and he made his escape to Hogwarts. On the day he was leaving his father was nowhere to be seen but his mother sobered up enough to give him a present - a Burmese cat named Dante. He was accompanied to the train by one of the house maids and his big sister.
At Hogwarts Ryker excelled in his classes and made friends out of them, but as his home life worsened outside of school, so did his personality. It wasn't until he was fifteen that he learned the truth about his real father. Ryker and his sister were home for the holidays and when all of the family sat down for the annual meal - the only meal where the whole family ate together - his mother, who was drunk, got to in an argument with Anythony, and unwittingly let it slip that Ryker's real father was more man than Anthony would ever be. It had all made sense then, why his father, Anthony, treated him like he didn't exist. Confused and angry, Ryker had gotten up and left the Manor - returning back to Hogwarts for the remainder of the Holidays and only returning for the Summer Holidays.
It was in the Summer Holidays, before his sixth year, that Anthony sat down and spoke with Ryker. He manipulated the boy, using Rykers desire to be accepted and loved, he told him that if he were to join with the Death Eaters, that he'd accept him into the family completely and treat him as his own son. Ryker, confused and angry with his mother for hiding the truth and still desperately craving Anthony's acceptance, agreed. He didn't know that Anthony was lying, manipulating his emotions, until he was branded with the dark mark. Anger and betrayal flooded through him but he didn't see a way out and still doesn't to this day.
