Runey's parents met while Marcus (her father) was on a business trip to France. He was a photographer at the time (a muggle job) when he met her. He immediately fell in love with her, he tells, but unfortunately she was married. She had one child with this union, and Marcus already had a child of his own from a previous marriage. But Marcus went back to that place where he had seen Vara more frequently than should have been possible. He even attempted to move to France to be closer to her. And he was there ready to make a move when her marriage exploded.
Runey was born before the wedding, but it wasn't her that caused the engagement. She was born in France, and soon after moved to America where Marcus's southern raised parents were angered that he impregnated a girl out of wedlock. They got married, but soon the fighting began and they separated when Runey was about 7 years old. Vara moved back to France and Marcus stayed in Georgia with Runey and his son Remey, who at that point was deemed a Squib.
Runey lived with her father and he became her best friend. She was home schooled along with her brother. She and her brother's relationship was very good until the time her magic surfaced. When that happened Remey started to hate Runey, mainly because he was jealous. He even at one point tried to kill Runey. She was 9 then, and was shipped off to France to live with Vara and her daughter Annabella who was at that time attending Hogwarts.
Two years later, Runey got her letter and went off to Hogwarts. She loved it and she loved France, but her mother wasn't as nice to her as her father had been. She basically left Runey alone to do what she wanted, she didn't help with homework or interact with her at all. Vara only interacted with Annabella, who was obviously her favorite.
At Hogwarts, Runey found refuge in her classes. She hoped that one day if she got good enough grades that Vara would be happy and such. Now that she is a 6th year with no progress in that relationship, she have moved on to bigger and better goals. She goes back to Georgia to visit her father a lot, as he is still one of her best friends and only confidant at the moment. She still avoids Remey and Annabella, as they both dislike her. The odd half sibling. But she doesn't let any of it get her down. She stay positive no matter what!
Her first year at Hogwarts was difficult because she was so obsessed with seeking her mother's approval and she missed her father and America. She was better at making friends when she was younger. Most of the friends she has now are friends she made her first year at Hogwarts. Although she was rather naive then, she has grown. Her following years were much more... normal. By her third year she realized it wasn't worth it to work herself to the brink of exhaustion just to fail at winning her mother's love. She just started doing things for herself.
Over those years she had lost many friends because she just didn't have time to be social. She had worked herself so hard to make good grades and do things she thought her parents would like that she just lost her friendships. Her fourth year, after she decided to start doing what she wanted instead of what she thought Vara would like, she tried to rebuild relationships. It worked with some people, but in the end she had a lot fewer friends.
When Runey was a 5th year, her half sister Annabella graduated Beaubatons. She then started traveling around the world, something that had always been Runey's dream. This further strained the relationship between the two because Annabella was only doing it to spite RUney, who she had never liked. That same year, her father got remarried. He had been considering moving to London so he could see Runey more often, now that Remey's temper had tamed sligthly. But the new step mother would have none of that. She didn't want anything to do with magic, so Runey's father Marcus basically gave up his magic. He had always been one to fall hard and fast.
