HISTORY:
It was a cool, rainy October evening as Ronald Weasley kissed his little girl on the top of her head, leaving her with her grandparents as he rushed his wife to the hospital. Hermione's hands clutched her distended stomach, as a smile played on her lips despite the furrow of pain in her brow. As they arrived at St. Mungos, they were rushed back to the maternity ward to meet with their doctor. After twenty four hours of grueling labor, all of the pain and stress was forgotten as Ronald was able to look down into the baby resting in his wife's arms. Their second child. Their son. Hugo.
The first four years of Hugo's life were much like any normal child. He and his older sister, Rose, spent days while his parents worked with his grandparents, and was picked up by his mommy as soon as she could escape the office. He was a happy, yet quiet boy who loved more than anything the afternoons when he was able to sit in Grandma Molly's kitchen and sing songs while she baked, instead of stay at his maternal grandparent's home. Often times, some of his cousins would be there as well. He particularly liked it when Lilly and Louis were there too. They were the same age as he was, and because of that they were often grouped together by their parents and older cousins. Hugo never minded, though. They were his best friends.
When he was five, it all changed. Hermione insisted that her children be sent to a muggle primary school to learn the basic subjects that she deemed necessary to survival as an adult in either world. All of a sudden, Hugo was sent to the school his sister attended, only seeing his family after class hours. Little Hugo didn't really understand why this was necessary. His cousins didn't have to go to a school like this, why should he?
Throughout his primary school years, Hugo struggled in his classes. While his sister got perfect marks on all of her assignments, Hugo was often sent home with a note from his teachers about his daydreaming, joking, or just not keeping up with the rest of his peers. His mother, in her loving concern, scolded him about paying attention to his lessons. It wasn't until he was nine that they realized that many of the issues Hugo was having could be attributed to a minor case of dyslexia. As long as he was very slow and very careful, he could do fairly well, but letters just gave him a really hard time.
Around the same time that his dyslexia was uncovered, Hugo began asking his parents for a guitar. He'd always had a love of music – ever since the days he spent singing songs in Grandma Molly's kitchen – and he really wanted to learn to play. His parents decided that if he could keep his grades up, they would get him guitar lessons. Hugo worked hard at school, and even harder at music. It came naturally to him, and he learned very quickly.
The summer before Hugo's eleventh birthday, an owl came to their home, inviting him to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Lilly and Louis got theirs the same year, and the trio were ready to go to school. As a congratulatory gift, his parents brought him home a small, crème colored, hooded rat. Hugo named him Lennon, after one of his favorite musicians that he'd discovered through his muggle grandparents on his mother's side. The first night that Lennon was in his room, Hugo awoke to someone muttering about food. He bolted out of bed, and hit the lights. No one else was around, but the voice asked him to turn the lights back out. Hugo discovered that night that he could speak with rodents. Afraid of being labeled a “freak” for something else the same way he was for his dyslexia in primary school, Hugo kept this a secret from everyone except Lilly. Even Louis, he was afraid, would tease him. Lilly though? It just wasn't in her nature.
For the past four years, Hugo has attended school at Hogwarts with his sister and cousins, sorted into the Gryffindor house. He managed to pass classes, always taking his time, but still could not live up to his sister's reputation of being one of the “smart kids”. Life at Hogwarts, though, has never once been dull.
