Some would say Verity Hooper is a lot like her mother, she’s both incredibly protective of her family, and there with a shoulder to cry on if its needed. Verity is quite a compassionate character and tends to put the needs of her family (and some of her friends) above her own, sometimes without even realising it. She doesn't have a quick temper and thanks to her parents love for moving houses she's quite adaptable to change, though it has been contemplated more than once just how fiery Verity could become if her patience was tested enough. As a personal rule Verity tries her hardest not to get to cross at her friends (and her family), she’s never probably fallen out with anyone, her sense of loyalty and guilt is far to great to allow it.
Out growing her younger bossy self, Verity has grown into quite the confident young woman, with a quick wit and a no nonsense attitude, Verity has often considers herself to be quite sensible in regards to her house, but of course her sensibility never truly blotted out her reckless streak. She’s also quite opinionated but only when you talk to her about a subject she's particularly passionate about, she’s never one for in depth discussion generally but if you talk to her about something she loves she can chat all night about it. Verity can by shy in some situations, but her shyness only tends to surface when she's embarrased (which is achieved quite easily), or if she's completely out of her depth. She can also be a touch naive, though she'd never admit it her stubborn pride would never allow her to. Her desire to please people sometimes brings out her apologetic nature, which can sometimes - if she's feeling quite flustered - fuel her shyness.
Verity's sense of independence is something she takes great pride in and she would hate the idea that she actually had to rely on someone elses help for once. Though that doesn’t mean she likes to isolate herself from her peers, it means she prefers helping herself out of messes, she doesn’t need someone to coddle her nor does she need some ego driven idiot with a notch list as long as her left arm. With that in mind, she’s also quite cynical, and those that have managed to get on her bad side usually stay there, she's always had a terrible habit of holding grudges.
Her sunny disposition however tends to hide that factor, in fact most of the time Verity's a very friendly and kind individual, she's patient and very approachable with the ability to talk to almost anybody as if they were old friends. A dreamer at heart Verity's an idealist, with a glass half full view on life she's often wondered what it'd be like to just take off on an adventure in some exotic location.
History -
Born to Amy and Geoffrey Hooper on a cold October day, Verity became the only child of the couple, she was a difficult who cried a lot and only really found solace when her father would sing her to sleep. Her parents often joked that she was the reason they never had any more children. She was quite an odd child, independent from an early age she preferred trailing around the garden alone picking flowers and hunting for ladybirds to bring back to her mother. Though there was one person she couldn’t be parted from, her best friend Rodger. Verity absolutely adored her him and like all young children was quite possessive over him, specially since his family was one of the only other wizarding families in the neighbourhood.
As she grew older and out of her odd habits, Verity learned to appreciate the rest of the neighbourhood children, while a lot of the girls played tea parties or pretend magical creature games Verity tried her best to join in with the boys and their wild games. She never succeeded however as no matter how much she pouted or stamped her foot at them they’d always send her away claiming ‘girls can’t play .’ Much to Verity’s chagrin. It never stopped her from trying however, but eventually she did give up and settled into the world of tea parties and dolls with the girls.
Verity first gave signs of magic when she hit the tender age of seven, she’d been climbing the tall chestnut tree at the bottom of the garden when one of the branches snapped and she’d hurtled to the ground. Instead of breaking a lot of bones Verity simply bounced - much to her father’s relief who had witnessed the whole ordeal from the kitchen window. Her troubles didn’t end at falling out of tree’s though, only months later she was sent to St Mungo’s with breathing problems after a particularly long game of chase in the garden. She couldn’t stop coughing and her breaths were laboured, it was there they discovered she had a a particularly bad case of asthma one that acquired her to always carry an inhaler.
While it did limit what she could do, Verity didn’t mind, reading was becoming much more appealing, and she also enjoyed taking pictures with her mother’s enchanted camera of the strange insects she found in the garden or the countryside near her home. It was this that led her to became a lot quieter and lot less clingy, one could say she was finally growing up.
When her letter finally came for Hogwarts Verity was more than excited, she was ecstatic, she couldn’t wait to see everything her parents had told her about, it would be her first adventure, though she made her parent’s promise to write to her as they said goodbye on the train, she may have been eleven but she still needed to here about them, once in a while.
After arriving and being sorted into Gryffindor Verity began to enjoy her life at the castle, she made a number of friends and did well in her studies. Throughout her Hogwarts education she became an average student and enjoyed the pleasure of her friends company instead of studying, something she wishes to change now that she’s in her sixth year and NEWTS are slowly approaching. She wants to do well for herself, though she had no idea what she wishes to do when she graduates.
