Character History:
Johanna's parents met while they were both in South Africa. Her father was a British man who lived there while her mother was a muggle American photographer who was there on a personal vacation. To hear them tell it, it was love at first sight, though the family believed they first started as enemies. Aura was taking pictures of the land and somehow Augustus managed to get himself in the side of each frame, the expert photo-bomber.
Aura relocated to South Africa, though still a photographer and still traveling much of the time. The pair got married three years after they met and a year later, Johanna's brother Dylan was born. He was a handful for the couple and they didn't know if they were going to have another child. But 8 years later they unexpectedly got pregnant again. Johanna was far younger than her brother and her parents were far older than they had been when Dylan was born. But on December 9th, Johanna was born in South Africa. She was named after the Carrington Hospital where she was born and her godmother Johanna House.
For three years following that, Johanna grew up in South Africa but then she and her family began traveling around the continent and her mother photographed almost everything. The family had wonderful records of their travels. They had been on the road for a short time when Dylan got his letter. As their father was a wizard who had gone to Hogwarts, Dylan was going to go as well. The family took a break from traveling long enough to get Dylan settled at Hogwarts and spend his first year their living not far from the school grounds in a muggle village.
MIDDLE CHILDHOOD
After Dylan's second year, when Jace was four and a half years old, the traveling began again. From New York City to Hong Kong, the family traveled and Aura photographed. Her favorite place that they traveled were the muggle ones, though her father and her ventured to magical locations around the world every now and then. She wasn't ever in muggle schooling and was instead homeschooled so that she could take her learning wherever they went.
When she was seven years old, her magic began to show it's signs. Her muggle mother wasn't as surprised after having been through the ordeal with Dylan, but she was still a little shocked. She hadn't known about her husband's magic until her son was born, but Aura was incredibly accepting.
The traveling continued until Dylan graduated from Hogwarts when Johanna was nine years old. At that point, he had met the love of his life and married her right out of school. The younger and older generations of Singers moved to a large house in Great Britain where Augustus's entire side of the family that was still alive dwelt for a few more years. Dylan and his wife Nora moved out once their child was born, and within to years Johanna got her Hogwarts letter.
FIRST YEAR AT HOGWARTS
Johanna's brother had given her a key piece of advice when she told him she was sorted into Hufflepuff. He told her she doesn't have to be what people want her to be, what people tell her she is. She can be whoever she wants to be because Hogwarts is a place where the individual shines. It was a motto she kept with her always and she always lived by. She didn't need to be accepted, she didn't need to be liked. She didn't need to be the star student or the class joker. She could just be Johanna Carrington Singer and that would be the end of that.
She didn't have to spend much time getting used to Hogwarts because she didn't feel it was necessary. She didn't understand at the time that she would be their for seven years. Her family had never stayed in once place for that long, so she didn't expect to settle at Hogwarts. She didn't make an effort to find friends. Johanna spent her time studying and trying to understand the differences between homeschooling and Hogwarts.
When summer vacation came, the entire family from both sides went on a big trip to South Africa, something that became a tradition for the Singers.
SECOND-FIFTH YEARS AT HOGWARTS
After her return for her second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Johanna had learned that this was going to be her home for a while. She suddenly understood that she needed to get used to it, needed to make it seem like a home. Although she never stopped wanting to leave and travel instead of stay put, she began to make friends. She found a passion in Quidditch, like she had in muggle sports growing up, and she learned more about herself. She always remembered her brothers words about being herself and not letting words hurt her. She spoke her mind and she let her opinions guide her. Johanna Singer, or Jace, will continue on her path to be a strong, independent woman.[/ul]
