ANOTHER UNINNOCENT, MAGICAL FALL INTO This adult bit, the job, the daily grind, the repetitive circular path of flat to work and back again - it was certainly going to take some getting used to for Ian. Granted, he remained the irrepressibly upbeat sort, but even the most resolute optimist isn't immune to the doldrums of monotony. It was simply... a period of adjustment, completely to be expected when coming on the heels of most of a year living abroad, where 'abroad' meant sleeping under the stars on the nights the thatched-roof hut felt too closed-in. He'd gone to sleep to the sounds of the dying embers of campfires while the songs of the wind whistled through the branches and leaves of the wood.
Ian stared down into the pool of Berry Ocky Rot at the bottom of his pewter cup; he'd never been much of a drinker, never acquired a taste for the distilled stuff, but wines and meads could occasionally persuade his tastes. And it seemed terribly rude to sit in such an establishment and only order tea, especially when he had to pass by this lot daily on his way to the shop. There was a distinct flavor in the wine, not just berry but a specific type of berry. Ian couldn't quite place it, but it occurred to him it might pair well with tapioca and maybe a little something else.
"Tell me a story," he said absentmindedly to his consort, his best friend, and the young man sitting across the short table from him, which were all Landon rolled into one. "It doesn't need to be a long one. But there has to be something from your work this week that's worth telling. I heard whispers on the Alley that a couple Russian wizards smuggled some pogrebins into Stoke. Any muggles admitted complaining of being bit by rocks?" Normally it was Ian who was the storyteller, but he'd always appreciated the opportunity to listen too. He dug several crisps from the open packet on the table and popped them into his open mouth, looking up intently at his best mate, eager to hear something exciting.
