Do as the Romans do. Sarah had made the journey with many other of her classmates, including her young sister Lizzie to the remarkable country of Italy. She had never been before and was anxious to discover all that it had to offer. She knew, however, that she would be doing a lot of discovering on her own. She hadn’t seen any of her friends since they left the school and she wasn’t sure whether she would or not. She had, however, finally told James the truth, but she still hadn’t told Madison. She wanted to, and she knew that she would have to. Just as soon as she got back. Sarah wouldn’t be going back to any big job, when she returned to London, she’d be working in Diagon Alley as a bartender at the Leakey Cauldron. It wasn’t a job that she had settled for; it was a job that she wanted. She wanted to be able to do something simple for a while until she decided what it was that she wanted to spend her life doing.
Sarah was most anxious about her visions. She hoped more than anything that she didn’t get any while they were on their trip, she wanted this to be fun. She wanted this trip to make up for all the fun things that she missed out on while she hid herself away in fear of yet another vision. This was the last thing she would do in regards to Hogwarts School; and she wanted to make it count, no matter the costs.
So, Sarah made the short trip from Rome to Sperlonga, a small coastal town in Italy. The sun was still in the sky when the group of them arrived at the beach. Most of the students went running straight for the water. Sarah would have too. A part of her wanted to. But instead, she hiked back up and made herself comfortable on one of the rocks overlooking the beach. The air smelled so good – so clean; and Sarah couldn’t get enough of it. She tucked her legs up to her chest and sighed a very contented sigh. Everything would be perfect… if she hadn’t been sitting here alone.

Tom had had a pretty intense few weeks. Shortly after school had finished, he had caught up with James and Rose at the Leaky Cauldron, and after a big argument between James and Rose about her dating Scorpius, they had come face to face with the Dark Lady herself, and ended up in a duel. (OOC: This is still happening in another thread). This had left all three of them injured and in St. Mungos, which had meant they had all taken some time to recover and had arrived late to the trip. But, at least now he was here, and could enjoy the relaxation of the holiday, and recover a bit more from everything that had happened.
As much as Rome was nice, Tom had decided that it would be good to head down to Sperlonga, one of the places where the chaperones had said it was ok for the students to go to. Since Tom had just arrived, he went down there a bit after the rest of the group had gone, so didn't know who else had come yet. But, with a smile, he soon noticed Sarah sitting on one of the rocks overlooking the beach, and he headed over to her. They were very close, as they both were with James and Madison as well. "Hey Sarah," he said as he approached, taking a seat beside her and looking out over the beach.

Do as the Romans do Sarah had heard about the incident with the Dark Lady involving James, Rose and Thomas and she had been deeply heartbroken about it. She had gone to see all three of them in the hospital but was turned away because she wasn’t blood family. Even though Ginny had vouched for her, the healers still wouldn’t let her in. Sarah was close enough to the family to be considered a Weasley. And she had been very butt-hurt that she was kicked out so quickly. She loved Thomas and James dearly; they were two of her very best friends, and Rose was a friend of hers as well. She was anxious to see them all back and better. And she was curious as to where Madison had been, she was almost sure that she had come on the trip, but she hadn’t seen or heard from her friend since graduation… maybe she had decided not to come last minute. Sarah knew Madison was even more upset about Thomas than she herself was. Sarah had been enjoying playing matchmaker for her two friends, but she wasn’t sure how long she could keep it up.
As soon as Sarah saw her friend sit next to her, she threw her arms around his neck and hugged him tightly before she realized that he was probably still sore from all of his injuries. “Sorry. But you are an idiot.” She said before she even said hello. Though, she knew that he knew she was just picking on him. Sarah loved Thomas; he was like a brother to her. He was someone that she knew she could tell anything too, and she wanted to tell him the secret too, she had just told James. But she knew this wasn’t the time or place for that, she wanted to have fun and enjoy this trip. “How are you feeling?” she asked him and sat back down close to him.

Thomas hadn't seen Sarah since before the incident - he had wondered if she would visit at the hospital, but she hadn't come. At least, that was what he had thought until his aunt Ginny had told him that she had tried to visit but the healers wouldn't let her in. He had been upset at the healers after that - Sarah was closer to him than most of his family was, which was saying something, as they were a very tight-knit family. So Tom had been keen to see Sarah again, to assure him that he was okay, and also to thank her for trying to come in. He was very glad that he had happened to stumble across her this morning.
Her hug when he sat down was a little unexpected, though, but he returned it thankfully. He really liked the closeness that they had, they had quite the history but it had just resulted in them being the best of friends now. "It's okay. And I'm sorry for scaring you," he said in a heartfelt tone. Of course, they had had no idea that the Dark Lady would be there - she had found them, rather than them finding her. He supposed that the three of them were lucky to still be alive. "I'm feeling a lot better, now. Still a bit weak, but the healers did a great job. I have a bit of a scar, though," he said, sliding up his sleeve to reveal his upper arm where there was a decent amount of scarring from one of her vicious curses. They didn't think it would cause any ongoing issues for him, but he would have to get it checked out fairly regularly to make sure it was going to be okay. "I heard you tried to come and visit... thanks. I wish they had let you in... I really can't believe they didn't," he said, shaking his head in disbelief.

Do as the Romans do. Sarah loved the Weasley/Potter family with all of her heart. They were as close to her as her own family was. Of course, Lizzie was excluded from that. Sarah owed everything to Lizzie. She had selflessly kept her secret for her entire life and had taken care of her when she wasn’t able to take care of herself after suffering from her terrible visions. Almost all of them were terrible. She was just very glad that she hadn’t seen the three of her friends being attacked. Sarah shuddered silently at the thought. She wouldn’t have been here right now if she had seen them, she wouldn’t have stayed at school another moment if she had seen it happen inside her mind and know that there would be nothing she could do about it without risking her secret. Though, she had told James, right before the accident. What was the use of the secret anyway? It was time that it came out. She wouldn’t let fear stand in her way any longer. She couldn’t keep it in and continue to live with herself.
“I did try, I was throwing a fit in the corridors.” She admitted with a smirk. “I’m surprised you all didn’t hear me.” She knew that they probably had the rooms sound proofed and everything to keep the patients safe and comfortable, but she had been rather loud at the time. “I thought you were the one I could trust to keep James out of trouble.” Sarah joked and elbowed her friend gently in his ribs, taking care to be extremely gentle with each touch; she didn’t want to hurt him, even by accident. “Oh my!” Sarah exclaimed when she saw his scars, “Well, on the bright side, women love battle scars on their men.” She smirked and bit her lip. “Have you talked to Madison since you got out?” she asked, knowing Madison had taken the news badly.

Thomas laughed as he heard about Sarah throwing a fit in the corridors. "I can imagine you doing that. The poor healers," he replied teasingly. Sarah had a bit of a temper - at least, she had a lot of passion, which was one of the things that Tom loved about her. In a friend way, now, of course. It was strange, having dated her before, and now still seeing things that he had liked about her when they had been together. It was hard sometimes to draw the line with his feelings. But all he knew for sure was that she was a great friend and they were always there for each other. He felt like they were able to share anything with each other, as well.
When Sarah mentioned that he should be the one to keep James out of trouble, he laughed again. "Maybe. But you forget that we get into most of our messes together," he replied with a grin. His expression turned back to serious, though. It was hard to still think back to what had happened, and how serious it could have been for them. Knowing that they were all lucky to get out of it alive was a scary thought. He was broken out of his thoughts by Sarah bringing up Madison. "No, I haven't seen her yet. I wanted to catch up with both you and her once I got here - it turns out I ran into you first, but I'll have to go and find Madison later." He didn't know how she would react to seeing him and James again after hearing about what happened, but he wanted to assure her that they were okay.

Do As The Romans Do. Sarah wasn’t sure what she was looking forward to in live yet. She knew that she was going to take the first few years easy and live at home until she could find a flat and then she would live by herself or possibly with a roommate until she decided what she would do for a job besides just bartend like she had planned and already was doing. As soon as she got back from her trip, she started working at the Leaky Cauldron. And a part of her was even looking forward to working some place quiet and dark and lonely. She didn’t want to be in the light and have all eyes on her, she wasn’t sure if she would ever be one of those girls who wanted everyone to look at her all of the time. She liked a quiet life. Madison didn’t want to live that way, she was going to work at the school where she could stay with friends and familiarity, James was going to be the super Quidditch Star, of course, and she wasn’t sure exactly what Thomas was planning, but she could guess it probably wasn’t bartending.
“Well, you’ll see her.” Sarah insisted. “I’m just glad you’re alive. She will be to.” Sarah said and leaned back, supporting herself on her elbows. The sun felt nice on her skin. Sarah normally wasn’t one to sit out on sunny days and soak it up, but it was a rather nice change compared to the rain and grey clouds that she was so used to in Britain. “Gosh… can you believe we’re done. I mean… we don’t live at Hogwarts anymore… we’re on our own… didn’t we just start school?” she still couldn’t believe it, even though she accepted it. She knew that it would take a while for it to seem real. “Life is scary, isn’t it?” she asked, biting her lip. “What now?” Sarah had come to love Thomas, she had loved him for a long time, and her love for him had gone through changes. Once, she had loved him as a boyfriend, and she still saw things in him that made it obvious as to why she had at that time been attracted to him, and it was nice to reminisce about, but it was past, and they were best as friends, she couldn’t picture her life without him though, or Madison, or James. But they were all going separate ways.

It was strange to think that they would all be leaving to do different things. Tom had plans to be a trainee Auror and also to join the Order of the Phoenix - and this resolve was especially strong after the encounter the previous week. They were making a statement - attacks were open, now, rather than secret and undercover - so it seemed there was going to be a war, or at least a need for those who would be fighting back on their side. And Tom was determined to be one of those. He would always make sure that he continued to catch up with Sarah, Madison, James and Rose though.
He nodded. "Yeah, I'm sure I will at some stage. Hopefully soon." He really wanted to see Madison, even if he was trying to move on from her. She still meant a lot to him and he wanted to be able to assure her that he was alright. "It's crazy. So weird to think that we won't be going back there." He let out a sigh. When she asked what now, Tom was confident in his answer. "I'm going to start training as an Auror. It was the plan beforehand and I'm even more sure of it now. And I'm going to join the Order of the Phoenix - I've spoken to dad about it, and he says that now that I'm of age, I'll be welcomed." He knew this might worry Sarah, but he had to do it, especially now. "You got the job at the Leaky Cauldron, right?" he asked, knowing that she had applied for it.

Do As The Romans Do Of course, Sarah would be enlisting in the Order of the Phoenix straight away as well. She was a dedicated member of Dumbledore’s army back at Hogwarts and even though she liked to stay in the dark (out of her own selfish fear of ridicule) she wasn’t naive. Sarah knew that another war was on its way, she could feel the tension in the air and the shift of energy in public places. From what her father had described to her, it felt almost exactly like this when they first started to realize a war was soon upon them as well. Sarah wanted to fight. She wanted to put her Gryffindor courage to some good use (she hadn’t found much use for it so far). Sarah knew she wasn’t the strongest, but she could always hold her own in a duel and she had bothered to pay attention in all of her classes. She felt confident that she wouldn’t go down without a fight. And, if she did go down, she would go down defending the people she loved. And if her one death meant that many others got to keep their lives, Sarah would accept her fate.
“You’d make a good Auror.” She smiled to him. Thomas had the bravery and talent and brains and strength. He had a nice build, she wasn’t shy to notice. And, truth be told, her friend was rather handsome and had gotten more so as he grew up, but she couldn’t really bring herself to think of him in any other way than her best friend, and her brother. Not anymore. Plus, she knew that he was in love with Madison; her other best friend. And Sarah was confident Madison liked him too, even if it was going to take a little more work to get it out of her. “Yeah. Hannah Abbott gave me the job.” She nodded, “I’ll probably be working mostly nights, though. So, if you ever get tired of Auror training, stop in for a drink.” She winked in a playful manor, though obviously just teasing him. Sarah gave a small sigh. She knew that things were going to be different now, and she wanted to start fresh. The only way that she was going to be able to do that, was if all she people whom she loved and had spent her entire life (up until this point) lying too finally knew her secret. “Hey, Tom?” she turned her head to look at him. “I want to tell you something. But I really don’t want you to get mad… I mean, you have every right to get mad, I know, but I don’t want you too…”

Thomas felt like most of his closest friends would join the Order. He knew for certain that James would, and he had strong suspicions that Sarah, Rose and Madison all would as well. It definitely wasn't only reserved for those who were training to be Aurors, of course. Anyone who left Hogwarts was skilled enough to be able to contribute plenty to the Order, and Thomas knew that Sarah got as fired up as anyone when she needed to. She was definitely someone who Thomas would be happy to have fighting beside him. But obviously it was ideal if fighting could be avoided.
"Thanks, Sarah," he replied warmly. It was nice to have the support from his friends, and he knew that he would always have Sarah's support, as well as she would always have his. She would really suit her bartending job, too - she was very warm and welcoming to people, and obviously very attractive - that didn't even need to be said. She was stunning, anyone could see that. But they had known each other so long that while there was still that attraction between them, they were very comfortable as friends. "That's great. I'll definitely make sure to stop in any chance I get, it's always great to catch up with you," he said genuinely. She suddenly went quite quiet, though, and seemed very anxious about something. "Yeah, Sarah? What is it? You can tell me anything, really, it'll be fine," he assured her. He had no idea what it would be, but he knew he would support her.

Do as the Romans do “We can all just come back to the bar after all of James’s matches.” Sarah smirked thinking of her friend. He was so set in his life already, before he even graduated he had two Quidditch teams fighting over which would get him to play for them once he graduated. She admired him. He was so strong and courageous and a good friend to her and everyone else. Hell, he had been attacked while protecting his cousins hadn’t he? Of course, the same could be said about Thomas. Both men were. And so was Madison. Sarah knew she would never be what her friends were. Sure, she was passionate and courageous and she knew what she wanted out of life… but she still felt that she would never be what they were. And that was alright with her.
Sarah wanted to tell Thomas. She wanted to be completely open and honest with him just like she had been with James. The secret had already kept her from so many life decisions and big opportunities. It wasn’t going to ruin any other relationships. The secret wasn’t going to hold her back any longer. Nothing was going to hold Sarah Jane Finnigan back any longer. She was 17 years old, a recent Hogwarts graduated and still single. Life was knocking, and she was going to answer it. “I’ve been keeping a secret… for my entire life, actually. I’ve only told James so far, but I want to tell you, and I’ve always wanted to tell you.” She sighed and looked straight at him. “Thomas, I’m a seer… I get visions a lot… and not happy visions. Most of the time I only see disasters and pain. And it’s painful to me, so I keep quiet about it. That used to be why I shut myself away for days at a time. Why I would just disappear.” She told him. “I’m sorry I kept it from you.” She looked away and watched the waves crash on the sand and the people jumping over them, almost wishing she were one of those people.

Thomas laughed at her suggestion. "We totally should. We should make it a tradition, that would be great," he agreed. Tom wasn't sure whether it would be weird for him to go back to the Leaky Cauldron again now after they had been attacked just after leaving it - but he felt it would be alright, especially with Sarah working there.
Thomas was a bit concerned about how nervous Sarah clearly felt about telling him this thing. What could be so bad that she would feel this anxious about telling him? He made sure he had a calm and understanding expression so he would help to make her feel comfortable while she told him. When she did, Tom was surprised, but there was no way he could be angry at her. Why would he? It would be a hard thing to deal with and he could understand why she wouldn't have wanted everyone knowing. "Sarah, it's okay. Don't worry, I'm not going to be angry at you or anything. I just want to be here for you - it must be so hard seeing those things all the time. How regularly do the visions happen?" he asked her, putting a hand on her shoulder comfortingly.

Do as the Romans do Sarah hadn’t even thought about the fact that she would now be working at the exact place where her friends had been attacked. For a second, she was terrified to have to spend every night there, probably alone… or maybe with one other person, not knowing what type of people were going to come in at any moment. Though, she was sure that Hannah Abbott wouldn’t set her up in a position to be in any danger or to be attacked like the others were. Sarah still wondered how it happened. And why. Surly a dark wizard didn’t just wander upon a group of teenagers and start flinging curses… and in the middle of a popular wizard pub? Sarah wondered for a moment whether James had said something; he would be that kind. But it didn’t matter. She didn’t want to know. She was happy just knowing that they were safe.
“You’re not mad?” she asked him, turning her head back to look at the man sitting next to her. She felt a wave of heat spread over the cheeks, though she appreciated his touch on her shoulder. Thomas could always comfort her. It was a gift that few had. He had it. James had it. Lizzie had it. Madison had it too. It was a decently rare gift. It felt nice to get it out and to know that she wouldn’t have to lie to someone whom she loved as much as she loved Thomas again. She could be honest now. And that was the best feeling Sarah had ever felt. “I get really bad ones about once a month, but the others come whenever they want to, those are little, and less intense… but still not something I would do if I were able to choose how I wanted to spend my time.” She insisted. “I’ve wanted to tell you for a long time. I’m glad that I was finally able to.” She admitted. Then, she decided that she had been talking too much about herself and didn’t like it. “So what are you going to do about Madison?” she asked him.

Thomas felt that everything had changed now, since the attack. Going outside wouldn't feel naturally safe anymore- people would have to always be wary and on their guard. He had never thought there was a possibility that he would be attacked before, not really. But now that was abundantly clear. Tom also knew that he would do everything he could to protect his family and friends.
He was surprised that Sarah had really thought that he might be mad because of what she had told him. They were such close friends, even if he didn't understand why she kept it a secret for so long, he definitely wasn't going to be mad. "Of course I'm not mad. I can kind of understand why you wouldn't have felt comfortable telling people, because it's pretty intense. But you know I'll always be there for you and something like this is definitely not going to change that," he replied. "I'm really glad you told me- thanks for trusting me with it. If you ever want to talk about a vision or something, I'm always here."[/font He really meant it, he would always be there for Sarah. She meant the world to him, as did Madison and James. "I really don't know what I'm going to do. Like I said, I think I need to try and move on from her. After a while I've just realised it's not going to happen, you know? I mean, we'll still be friends obviously, but I think the idea of a relationship is out."

Do as the Romans do “Well, I appreciate that you’re not mad.” Sarah said right away. It meant a lot to her knowing that she had such supportive people in her life. She liked that Thomas was taking it so easy. It made her question why she had waited so long to tell him. Or, to tell anyone for that matter. Was it really that big of a deal? Sarah had kept it a secret out of fear of being treated differently. She heard the stories about how the public treated her aunt when they found out that she was a Seer. They ignored her and laughed about her behind her back and never took anything she said seriously enough. Sarah knew that her aunt hadn’t been lying about her gift. Sarah could in her wildest dreams imagine why anyone would want to lie about something this big and painful and not fun. In Sarah’s eyes still, it wasn’t something you boast about, it was something you should keep to yourself… if you didn’t want your life ruined, of course. Sarah had thought a bit that maybe times had changed and people were more accepting now. But some would still think she was a fraud. And Sarah knew that even with all her Gryffindor courage and pride that she stacked on the outside, she’d fall apart inside if anyone talked about her gift the way they talked about her aunts.
Sarah appreciated also the change of topic. Madison was a good topic to change to. Madison was a Seer as well, which made it harder for Sarah to hide the signs and symptoms of her visions from her friend. She felt most bad about lying to her. “I tried to help you, I really did.” Sarah sighed a little and shifted her position so she could lay her head on his lap. Sarah appreciated her friends. She liked that they were close enough to use each other as pillows and not have anything read into it. “Maybe that’s for the better, you know? I mean, imagine if you broke up or something? It could ruin the group.” She really did think that they would be cute together if it were able to work. But she couldn’t see many options left. Madison was stubborn and didn’t see what Sarah knew was there.
